www.theadviceofstrangers.com - Over a year in the making - now in less than a week - I'll finally be starting the most intense project I've ever attempted, The Advice of Strangers. I'm nervous. To the point where I think I have a hernia. Can nerves even give you a hernia? My nerves also tell me they're excited.

What does a major loss of control in one's life look like? I guess you could start doing heavy amounts of heroin to find out, or you could tune into theadviceofstrangers. The choice is yours.

I was able to capture the above image while on set for GSN's new series, "Pile," they are currently shooting.

I'm one of two hosts on the show and there are supposed to be no photographs on set, but seriously, how ridiculous is this show? I mean how low can you go?

Here's the show blurb I copied the show bible. "Inspired by 'Hands on a Hard Body,' 'Pile' is an extreme race to the finish! Each week, Pile will present its contestants with a brand new heaping pile of rock, coal, bricks, wood, etc... The objective is to get to the center to uncover the prize. The first contestant to dig the prize out WINS! For the first episode we will bury a Sony 60" LCD 1080p TV at the bottom of the 300 ton pile of coal [pictured above]."

Pile is set to debut in November 2010 on The Game Show Network (GSN). Gee can't wait.

This is it! I mean every time I jump in the pool, get in the shower, or relax in the hottub, the very FIRST thing I wanna do is make calls - well hot damn, now I can! And for only $1790. Thanks SkyMall.

Oh and the image really sells it. She looks so pissed!

Sharon: "Mike are you scuba diving again?"

Mike: "No?"

Sharon: "Ok, well make sure you're home by 6, the Briddles are coming over for dinner and I need help with the tuna casserole!"

Mike: "No problem honey! Love you, see you soon."

They hang up.

Mike: "Thanks SkyMall! Now I can scuba dive and nobody will know!"

What I'm wondering is where are the underwater cell phone towers? No matter.

This is a project I did with the infamous Sir John Hargrave of Zug. We actually went to Charlize Theron's house, snuck in with the builder crews, and installed some celebrity gutters. She wasn't there, but I'm sure she appreciates her new gutter guards.

Alex Johnson and Babelgum crew made a cool doc about the Google Maps Road Trip Pete Baldes and I took. It's nice and short and my eyes are really wide open for some reason.

Here's their description of the vid:

"Whether it’s stretching 1500ft of extension cords from his kitchen to a park to make coffee for passers-by, spending a year dining with strangers across the US, or helping others run errands with the use of a mule to cheer them up, Marc Horowitz’s work revolves around culture jamming, social practice…and just making people feel good. When fan Peter Baldes approached him about doing a cross country road trip the two strangers decided to complete it virtually instead, driving all the way from LA to Virginia…on Google Maps, using the arrow keys to ‘drive’. With a host of ‘back-seat’ drivers joining them and a commitment to keeping close to reality the two toured the country for nine days. We join Marc and Peter as they take their project live for the first time in front of a real-life audience."

I led a workshop at the NYC conflux festival this past September with a group of super awesome folks. The idea was to collectively make a commercial for NYC in a single afternoon; brainstorm in the morning, immediately go out and shoot the commercial, then edit it that evening. The editing part got a bit delayed thanks to the swine flu. Nevertheless, here's what we made! If you know Mayor Bloomberg, or are him, please consider this a submission for the official commercial for NYC. Tourism will triple, I swear.

This is one of the more interesting and potentially lucrative spams I've received today. Curious, I replied and they responded almost immediately in very broken English:

"Corner broome renwick 11 tonowt. NYcety. Only Cash. Bring self only. We watch on you. Lies no. heartfelt to thanks. Leu.”

Since I don't live in NYC, I asked my friend Eric if he wouldn't mind going in my place. He agreed.

I guess it's only a matter of time until I have some great handmade military ribbons. I could probably attach them to gifts, my shoes, maybe make magnets out of them. I'm sure I'll find plenty of uses once I actually get them.

I'll be in NYC from September 16th through the 23rd for the awesome http://confluxfestival.org/ . Please come out and participate, at least for my stuff. I'll be doing two projects and a lecture for the festival at NYU's art department @ 34 Stuyvesant Street 10003.

1) September 19th 2:00 - 2:30 - Lecture "I Get Around" - Marc Horowitz will discuss three of his travel-based projects. The National Dinner Tour, The Signature Series, and Google Maps Road Trip.

2) September 19th (right after the lecture) 2:30 - 3:45 - Google Maps Road Trip NYC - Peter Baldes and Marc Horowitz will perform a live virtual trip of NYC, in the vain of their recent cross-county Google Maps Road Trip project. They will take suggestions from the audience on what to visit and do on this journey. They will utilize google maps to navigate around, ustream.tv to broadcast the event live on the internet, youtube to see various NYC videos, and flickr to explore still images of the city.

2) September 18th 12:00pm - 6:00pm (at noon gather at Rosenberg gallery and we'll leave from there) - NYCommercial - Marc Horowitz will lead a workshop that focuses on making a commercial for New York City. Marc and the group (you) will begin in the morning by brainstorming various ideas for the best commercial for NYC. The group will then shoot the commercial; later that day, edit it, and finally post it to several video sites and the conflux website.

This week, lostinasupermarket.com is going to do an interview piece on me. That's very nice of them. The editor said he didn't want a regular photo portrait of me for the piece, and I don't blame him. He asked me to come up with a few ideas for a photo shoot, and below is what I came up with. Let me know which one you like best, and the one with the most votes will get produced for the magazine. To vote, just put the # of the idea in the comment section. Thanks for your help! Let the voting begin.

1. Run in place in a wind tunnel in really oversized clothing.
2. A photo of me sneezing milk on someone else.
3. A photo of me sneezing milk with blue food coloring onto paper to make drawings.
4. Photo series of alternative sleeping spaces in LA – find strange but somewhat appropriate places to sleep, demonstrate.
5. Sky gazing - lay down face up in various places in LA. Wide shots.
6. Photos of me yelling at inanimate objects.
7. Photo series of me yelling at plants.
8. Photo series of me getting in the back of people's cars that I just met.
9. Hire a make-up/ special effects artist to make me super fat. I would then go to various doughnut shops and grocery stores with narrow aisles.
10. Hitchhike down sunset blvd from my house in Echo Park to the beach. Have the photographer follow me for the day.
11. Enroll in a motivation course and have the photographer follow me for the day.
12. Combine office work and yard work - for example, leaf blow 3 large stacks of 8 1/2" x 11" paper entirely around an LA block.
13. Run for the CEO of Arby's - pass out buttons and propaganda dressed in a suit at the original Arby's on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood.
14. Water ski entirely wrapped in bacon in an attempt to get over my fear of fish and lake water.
15. Attempt to make a painting in the back of a pickup truck as it is going up a really rough road.
16. Hold a junk food conference at the Radisson. Have the photographer pretend he works for Frito-Lay’s web division.
17. Dress up in clothes that very closely resemble the environment so I nearly blend in.
18. Try to eat a five-course meal hanging up side down at a restaurant.
